Babel Audio

The review

Have an audio conversation with another human being about casual topics and get paid $17.50/hr! In between projects (pending application review), and referral link is disabled by Babel for now :( . This is a legit 1099, taxed, gig-work site that can be incredibly lucrative depending on how much time, quality, and effort you put in. I've personally spent about 5 hours on here so far and I'm hanging out right at that $17.50/hr mark. They have a video call opportunity that pays $50/hr, but it appears to be INCREDIBLY selective. They also frequently run $20/hr boosted rates during high traffic time periods to incentivize more people to chat. The standard rate is $4.38 for a 15 minute conversation, but they recently rolled out a rewards program that rewards people who use the site more often. The rewards program offers a handful of $100+ bonuses for spending 70hr/month, 180hr/mo, and other milestones. These one time bonuses can be affected by a weekly multiplier that can reduce the bonus threshhold all the way down to 50hr and 90hr, respectively. The catch - there are a LOT of tiny guidelines you must follow at all times, so the conversations are not very "relaxed". You also must have a quality microphone and ZERO background noise - they are super sensitive to that. There is a "quality" meter that they track you on, and if you are a low quality participant then you'll only be able to have 5 conversations per day, or so. I think the best of the best have 30 conversations alloted to them per day, which is 7.5hr of conversation. Essentially a full time job. But if you have a good mic and you're in a quiet room, this is genuinely one of the easiest and best side hustles I've seen so far. Use my link to get $15 after completing 10hr of chatting in 14 days (essentially boosting your hourly rate to $19/hr for your first 10 hours :))

Tips & tricks
  • take the training seriously and follow the guidelines seriously. Other participants want to succeed as well and will try to help you
  • use the deliberation time period (selecting a topic) before you click "ready up" on your first conversation to TELL the other participant "this is my first conversation", so that they are prepared to work with you :)
  • NO BACKGROUND NOISE! SERIOUSLY! I've been "dinged" for simply moving my chair before! Definitely no fans, pets, kids, or tv/youtube in the background
  • I recommend FULL Focus on the session, as it appears each one is reviewed manually by a human for quality after submission - but some people do report doing other survey sites silently while chatting. While I do not personally recommend this, some people on reddit have mentioned it as a way to boost earnings
  • If you use my referral and work 10 hours in your first 2 weeks, you'll get a combined $20 bonus ($5 from babel rewards, $15 from referral bonus) which essentially boosts your hourly rate up to $19.50/hr.
  • with referral - work 36hr in your first month and you're looking at a combined $40 bonus on top of the normal $630 earnings you'd get. Totalling $690, before multiplier rewards.
  • work 160hr in your first month (treat this like a full time job) and you're looking at $3000+ (weekly multiplier + babel rewards $250 + referral $15)
  • Babel will often run boosted rates. I've seen $30/hr twice now, in just the last month - enroll in SMS notifications so you can get a text message whenever they run these promos.
  • Babel has a community forum kinda thing that looks like slack. If you ever have questions about the platform, I highly recommend sending your question there. People are SUPER kind and responsive. It's a good community
